Belarusian Quilt of Queer Pride

Belarusian Quilt of Queer Pride is a project about queer people in Belarus and in emigration. The quilt consists of 44 works that reflect the personal experience, identity and pride of queer people in the state of constant challenges.
Our quilt, like our community, consists of different parts, where each one is unique, but together it creates an inseparable whole. As a blanket, quilt embodies warmth, protection and care, which we miss so much in difficult times. At the same time, it is a source of information: quilt transmits the voices of queer Belarusians, tells about our lives, our experiences and joys. Favorite symbols, supportive phrases and memorable moments are all combined into a single canvas, an artifact of solidarity and support within the community. This quilt is our statement of existence, our strength and hope for the future.
Every stitch, every patch of our quilt is filled with strength and pride. Let it be a reminder that even in the most difficult circumstances, we stay together, supporting each other and finding warmth where it is so difficult to find.
The quilt was sewn in Minsk and transferred to Vilnius in the autumn of 2024. The patches were made by 28 people from different cities of Belarus: Minsk, Mogilev, Gomel, Grodno, Vitebsk, Pinsk, Polotsk, Rogachev and Kobrin. The quilt size is 180 by 140 cm. The site also presents works from Warsaw and Vilnius, made by Belarusian queers in exile.
The project is inspired by the Norfolk Trans Joy Community Quilt @transjoyquilt.

Квілт гонару квір-беларус:ак – гэта праэкт пра квір-людзей у Беларусі й эміграцыі. У аснову квілта ляглі 47 прац, якія адлюстроўваюць асабісты досьвед, ідэнтычнасьць і гонар квір-людзей ва ўмовах пастаянных выклікаў.
Квілт, як і наша супольнасьць, складаецца з розных частак, кожная зь якіх унікальная, але разам уяўляе сабой непарыўнае цэлае. Як коўдру, квілт ўвасабляе цяпло, абарону й клопат, якіх нам так не хапае ў цяжкія часы. У той жа час, ён зьяўляецца крыніцай інфармацыі: квілт перадае галасы квір-беларус:ак з розных кантэкстаў, распавядае аб нашым жыцьці, нашых перажываньнях і радасьцях. Улюбёныя сымбалі, падтрымліваючыя фразы й памятныя моманты — усё гэта аб’яднана ў адзінае палатно, артэфакт салідарнасьці й падтрымкі ўнутры супольнасьці. Гэты квілт – заява аб нашым існаваньні, нашай сіле й надзеі на будучыню.
Кожны шывок, кожны лапік у нашым коўдры напоўнены сілай і гонарам. Хай ён стане напамінам пра тое, што нават у самых складаных абставінах мы застаемся разам, падтрымліваючы адзін аднаго й знаходзячы цяпло там, дзе яго часам так складана знайсьці.
Квілт быў пашыты ў Менску й перададзены ў Вільню восеньню 2024 году. Над лапікамі працавалі 28 чалавек з розных гарадоў Беларусі: Менску, Магілёва, Гомеля, Гародні, Віцебска, Пінска, Полацку, Рагачова й Кобрына. Памер квілта – 180 на 140 см. На сайце таксама прадстаўлены працы з Варшавы й Вільні, выкананыя квір-беларус:камі ў эміграцыі.
